2010 BROWNSBURG PREVIEW
POSTED: 6/15/10
By: Donnie Smith

Preview of 2010 Brownsburg Season
The Bulldogs experienced their best season in years after finishing 9-4 a year ago. Not only were the nine wins the most since 1994, but Brownsburg bagged its first sectional championship since the glory years of 1984-85 when it knocked off Avon, 42-14. The season ended a week later in the regional but the Bulldogs gave eventual state champ Warren Central everything they could in a tough 14-6 setback. In fact, the other three losses of the campaign occurred against teams that hardly boast shabby resumes - Hamilton Southeastern, Zionsville and Fishers.
Coach Brett Comer deserves a lot of credit for guiding the Bulldogs to their first  winning season in six years. The big question is whether he can take this year’s group to the next level as he enters his fifth season.
“If we continue to stay hungry and focused on the process of improving every day,’’ offered Comer as a start. “Our seniors must take the lead and teach our younger players what it means to be a Bulldog. We will stay disciplined on and off the field and will continue to make our school, community and those we play for proud.’’
Graduation grabbed several key players including All-State wide out Charles  Torwudzo, running back Gus Ervin, defensive back Grant Waggoner and linebacker Josh Markovich, to name a few.
A handful of starters return to the “Spread Option’’ offense led by senior quarterback Robby Robbins who threw for 1,124 yards on 76 completions last season. He also showed versatility by rushing 135 times for 729 yards. Senior wide out Logan Williams also returns as does senior center Joe Green and senior guards Josh Krushinski and Jacob Holtman.
The running game has some experience back from a year ago in senior Kennedy Hill and junior Jordan Reagan. Reagan actually started at linebacker in 2009 and is making the transition
to the offensive backfield. Junior Bobby Carr is also listed at quarterback on the depth chart.
The “3-4” defense should be strong with the return of eight starters. Senior ends Zach Dutra and Jacob Milkie and senior tackle Derek Tatum all return to the trenches after posting solid numbers in 2009. Tatum led the way with 86 tackles and two sacks. Senior linebackers A.J. Akinribade (86 tackles) and Steele Neese (37 tackles, 11 sacks) also return as do two of the best to the secondary. Senior Torrey Nibbs recorded 75 tackles and grabbed seven interceptions last season while fellow senior Ryan Barton had 74 tackles, one pick and one sack.
Look for Kyle Christy to again handle the punting and kicking duties. The senior averaged 34 yards on 25 punts as well as hitting on 5-of-8 field goal attempts including a 45 yarder.
Several newcomers to keep an eye on include seniors Todd Nibbs (WR), Grant Wysong (LB) and John Massingale (DB), juniors Ben Dall (DL), Neil Hurford (OL), Alex Mauck (LB) and Isaac Beverstock (RB) and sophomore Chase Dutra (RB).
