2010 FORT WAYNE SNIDER PREVIEW
POSTED: 6/15/10
By: Donnie Smith

Preview of the 2010 season
The Fort Wayne Snider Panthers are stressing work in 2010 after going 10-3 overall and 7-2 in the Summit Athletic Conference in 2009.
“We will get as our works deserve,” says second-year coach Kurt Tippmann. “We are going to be successful if our senior class cares more about the team than they do themselves, they embrace the attitude of hard work and value it as the key to our success and they become servant leaders in our
program.”
Key graduation losses include running back Jason McGraw, quarterback Tyler Bobilya, running back-defensive end Zachary Barnes (All-SAC going to Saint Joseph’s), linebacker Devon Rush (all-state going to Saint Francis), defensive lineman Donny Campbell (All-SAC going to Manchester), defensive  lineman Rachard Maddox, defensive lineman Andrew Kraick, defensive back Darries Martin, running back Keenan Kelsaw, offensive lineman Todd Freimuth, offensive lineman Cody Gatchell, offensive lineman Jake Hyndman and offensive lineman Eric Menor.
Tippmann sees the skill of Snider’s seniors as a team strength.
“If the seniors don’t come to play, it will be a long year,” says Tippmann.
The Panthers do not have much varsity experience on the offensive or defensive lines. Senior defensive back Kendal Frederick and senior wide receiver Akeim Kelsaw are identified by Tippmann as players to watch in 2010. The coach calls junior running back John Nelson and junior linebacker James Starks as the best underclassmen in the program.
Tippmann says the seniors are thin in linemen but athletic while the juniors are strong and the
sophomores have numerical (74) and physical size.
An “I” offense features top returning rusher and junior running back John Nelson (49 carries for
461 yards) and top returning receiver Kelsaw (20 catches for 466 yards).
Vying for time at quarterback are seniors Darin Barbour and Riley Jordan.
Also in the offensive mix are juniors Derrick Carlisle and Norman Smith at running back, seniors Nick Lewis, Leighton Painter and Alex Niedermeyer at wide receiver, senior Eric Godfrey and Addison Dellinger at tight end and seniors Ryan Tountzios, Tyler Ahlersmeyer, Logan Dan and Alex
Mayo, juniors Kenny Thomas and Kalen Moorman and sophomore Ruben Holcolm (6-5, 280) on the
offensive line.
Snider averaged 291.3 yards on the ground per game and 95.2 through the air in 2009.
A 4-4 defense includes seniors Karrington Thompson, Kevin McBroom, Alex Endara and Deishaun Butler at end, senior Devon Davis, juniors Dan Furman and Juwan Turner and sophomore Painter at tackle, seniors Marlon Williams, Davontae Benson, Jerry Washington and Levi Griffin and junior James Starks at linebacker and seniors Frederick, Nick Vachon, Nate Northington and P.J. Bridges in the secondary.
The Panthers yielded 135 yards rushing and 80.8 passing per game in 2009.
On special teams, there’s senior Tyler Williams at punter and Lewis at kick returner.
Top varsity newcomers include Nelson, Moorman, Holcolm, Painter and junior defensive back Dominique Dickey.
