As MyIndianaFootball.com approached Bowser Field, one thing
stood out; there were girls and guys walking off the field that had just
finished up conditioning. “Well we really have a unique thing here a Snider,
the whole athletic department, all the sports together, workout in the morning
five days a week, girls, guys, spring sports, fall sports, winter sports all
together, about 250 kids out here each morning,” said head football coach Kurt
Tippmann. They do this to “become better athletes all around,” according to
Tippmann.
For the Panthers, it’s not all about conditioning, “we do a
little football specific drills,” said Tippmann, “and some 7-on-7 as well,
getting involved in some of those tournaments across the state.” The rising number
of 7-on-7 leagues and tournaments throughout the state has made this “type” of
football the favorite for Indiana High School Football coaches.
“We’re getting ready for our team camp next week, and then a
week off, and then two-a-days the week after that,” said Tippmann. The IHSAA
has mandatory moretoreum weeks built into the schedule every year, but for many
coaches, they feel another week off before two-a-days helps their kids come in
refreshed, and ready to go to work come the first week in August. “The kids
need a break,” said Tippman, “they work hard… we think to get them refreshed is good.”
The outlook for the Panthers is a good one, “we’ll get as
far as our senior class takes us,” said Tippmann, “we’re a senior dominated
program, and we work and build towards kids’ senior year in the program, and
that is their year to leave their legacy on the Snider football program.”
The class of 2011, the seniors this fall, will be looking to
leave their legacy on the Snider football program, but this journey began when
they were freshman. “Our senior class will determine how well we do, we have a
medium sized group, about 27 kids that have been with us for four years… now
they have to get their teammates to buy in to what they bought into a long time
ago,” Tippmann said in closing.
MyIndianaFootball.com is looking forward to seeing the
Panthers’ senior class leave their legacy on the Snider football program, but
also to see the mark they leave on Indiana High School Football.
